the wind in the trees make an age old song
that I used to sing, yes I sung for so long
but now the winds that blow me like guiding arms
keep me from home, keep me from where I belong

well it's funny now, the things I think about
the things that I miss, and things that I've cut out
the place that I love, my friends and family,
I play like a film every night as I sleep

every brief little moment in time
like the chimes on my porch in the late autumn storms
I wear out these thoughts like a pair of old jeans
when my mind starts to drift and come apart at the seams

the person I've been, and the places too
I'm glad you ain't seen all the cracks I've slipped through
because I've been down where there's nothing to lose
and you're wandering drunk down each avenue

but my mind drifts to you with the help of some tune that could conjure me back
and the old life I knew like a dream that's now fading to black
